Intelligent Process Automation (IPA) refers to the application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to automate end-to-end business processes. It incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) technologies like natural language processing, machine learning, intelligent document processing, and structured data interaction.

IPA is the transformation of business processes that previously could not be automated, because they involved the processing of unstructured data, and therefore had to be performed manually. Even complex process steps, such as reading documents and processing speech files, can be automated by integrating artificial intelligence (AI). Installation and supervision of this system by a specific group or company is called IPA management.
